Web Cam
The web cam was invented in 1991 and was pointed at a coffee pot in the computer science department of Cambridge University. Since then it’s come to have many uses and just about all of them are amazing. Suppose you and your girlfriend are going to separate colleges and you don’t have occasion to see each other much. If you had a web cam you could chat every night and see each other. It’s so much better than the phone. Web cams are now being built into most new laptops, especially if you get one that’s at least a little bit high quality.
Web cams are used in business too, although they’re typically higher quality than those you see on the typical laptop. Instead of having to talk over the phone you can see your business partner on video and read each other’s faces. It’s good for better communication and it encourages more honesty because it’s a lot harder to lie when you’re looking right at someone as opposed to talking over the phone. Some might look at the web cam as evil for making it harder to lie but I think we can assume that they lie a lot.
Do you have a web cam? If not you should really find one because it’s super handy. If you’re a grandparent then you’ll want to see your grandkids as they grow up, especially if you don’t live nearby. If you’re a parent you can use a webcam to check on your kid at college. Web cams are pretty great for security too. In the office you can have the cam looking at the door and feeding right to your computer. There are wireless web cams that can watch and area while you take cover some distance away. There’s are a great many uses for a web cam so you just have to think of the one that suits you the best.
